The ArchitectureHartington Court is an imposing building built in the 1930s streamlined style with much emphasis on horizontal banding. The building uses red brick in horizontal layers, which is intersperced with white render, this adds to its unique appearance. The height of the building is higher than the surrounding buildings, which emphasises the prominence in the Grove Park Conversation Area. Hartington Court remains a central figure of the conversation area not only because it has no parallels to other buildings in the area but also because it remains sympathetic to other key buildings such as St Pauls Church.Hartington Court and the adjacent University of London Boathouse can be viewed from either the Surrey bank of the Thames or from the river, and are seen as a part of a unique Thames vista, a continuous panorama of 1930s waterfront architecture. Nowhere on the tideway is there such an extensive and striking unspoiled view of distinguished architecture of the Art Deco period.
